Can fish be cooked from frozen?
It’s true, you don’t!
You can skip the thawing process altogether and cook frozen fish straight from the freezer.
You’ll have to add a few minutes to the cook time in your recipe to account for the lack of thawing, but you can poach, steam, bake, broil or grill fish straight from the freezer!
How do you cook frozen fish fillets?
- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Remove frozen fish from all packaging and rinse under cold running water to remove any ice crystals.
- Arrange fish in a single layer on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 4-5 minutes.
- Continue to bake until hot and flaky in the center, about 8-12 more minutes.
How do you thaw frozen fish fillets?
To safely thaw frozen fish, place the fish in the refrigerator overnight so it can thaw out gradually. This is the best way to preserve the fish’s flavor and texture. If you need to thaw the fish quickly, place it into a resealable plastic bag, then submerge the fish in a pot of cold water for about an hour.
Can you batter frozen fish fillets?
No, the batter won’t stick and the ice will splatter the oil. You can however by pre-battered frozen fish that will fry just fine.
