How long does it take to cook beans in a slow cooker?
Put beans into the slow cooker and add enough water to cover beans by 2 inches.
Turn cooker to HIGH and cook beans until they’re tender and cooked through, about 5-6 hours for un-soaked beans.
(You can also cook the un-soaked beans on low, which would take about twice as long.)
Is it safe to cook beans in a slow cooker?
Kidney beans should not be cooked from raw in a slow cooker. If you care about the scientific reason – it’s that the beans contain a protein, called phytohaemagglutinin, which is toxic. Slow cookers may not reach a high enough temperature and hold it for long enough to kill the toxin.
Do you have to soak beans before cooking them?
